Luso-Spanish Project envisions using goats for fire safety 150 000.

Lisbon, 26 September .- A project Luso-Spanish covering the north of Portugal and the Spanish provinces of Zamora and Salamanca 150 000 plans to use goats to prevent fires and promote the local economy, explain one of its leaders, Joao Henriques.

Henriques, Portuguese coordinator of the European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation (EGTC) Duero-Douro, said the initiative "Self-Prevention" aims to start during 2011 with, fallen earth chips, the support of the Governments of Portugal and Spain and with the support of the European Union ( EU).

Henriques I emphasize that this project will benefit the northern districts of Braganca and, free mmorpg game, Guarda, in the Portuguese side, and the provinces of Zamora and Salamanca in the Spanish.

"It affects around 73,000 people and includes a total area of 9,000 square meters," he said.

"Self-Prevention", which was officially launched this week, has a budget of 48 million euros, expects to generate 30 million in turnover, and create up to 558 direct jobs, Henriques added.

Created in 2007, the European Grouping of Territorial Cooperation (EGTC) Duero-Douro, based in the province of Salamanca and in charge of launching this project, includes 187 Hispanic-Portuguese entities and has as main objective to strengthen the economic and social cohesion the region.
